The story of Marie Enka Gemeto

Marie ENKA GEMETO was born on 30th October 1985 in DINGILA, Eastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2002, she was abducted by a militiaman while she was going to school. She witnessed the war and all kinds of atrocities committed by the militia in the Eastern Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo as the wife of a fighter close to the battle field.

Since the day of her abduction until today, she has cut of all communication with her family. Marie Enka has this to say: "you don't know what this war is about. Here I was a girl, far away from her parents and without freedom of expression and no right even over her own body on the battle field. It is an unforgettable experience for me; I think that today we don't have the same meaning of the word RAPE…"

She travelled throughout the land of Congo without her consent, from the East (Kisangani) to the West (Bas Congo) in 2004 and arrived in Kinshasa in 2005 with a mature pregnancy. A few days later she gave birth to a child who died shortly after.

In 2006, she was abandoned by her abductor without any resources nor knowledge in Kinshasa city. An angel in Pastor Martin Mambula welcomed her into the church. Martin is a Samaritan Strategy Trainer and serves in the NEST Church. The congregation demonstrated love by offering her a place to stay. For her economic empowerment, Samaritan Strategy Congo offered a sewing machine. Today, she is learning tailoring in a vocational centre and the Church supports her training, including transport to the Centre of $2 every day.

Please pray for our sister Marie as she tries to locate her family, and raise the support to complete her tailoring training and set up business. Marie’s wish is to have a shop in which to train single-mothers, and women who are victims of rape. She is touched by the love showed to her by the Christians at NEST Church.
