Background
Sheepcare Community Centre is a registered local self–help group organization. The organization was founded by Power Revival Centre – Church after Pastor Luke and other three church members who attended Vision Conference in the year 2002, organized by CMS and facilitated by Mr. Dennis Tongoi. At the conference they were challenged that human lives and success largely depend on what worldview they hold.
During the conference they sat together in a group of four and come to an agreement that they had the following resources.
1. An empty mabati (iron sheet) church which was only used for few hours on Sunday and largely empty the rest of the weekdays.
2. A group of young people who have knowledge but jobless and for seven days a week they were doing nothing tangible. Pastor Luke challenged them that instead of doing nothing for nothing, why can’t they do something for nothing.
With that challenge they did a simple survey in Soweto slums - Nairobi. The survey revealed that many school going-age children were not in school; instead, the majority were roaming in the streets and/or scavenging for food.

How Are We Involved In Community Transformation?
I. Sheepcare Academy
This was the first ministry to be implemented by Sheepcare Community Centre. It was the centre's response towards the findings of the survey that revealed majority of the school going-age children were not in school. They went to houses and offered to teach them instead for free. After some weeks 2 children were brought by their guardians and they started teaching them in the church hall. Later the team came across some street children and after interacting with them it emerged that their greatest needs were:
1. Love
2. Food
Pastor Luke began by dividing the maize flour in his house to make porridge for these 20 children. Breakthrough came when some of the hard-core street children were rehabilitated and reunited with their family. From then on, it has been rush by parents and guardian to bring their children in the centre. When the number started increasing they appealed to church members, some who volunteered to contribute more flour and make porridge at the church because it was difficult to carry the porridge every morning on their heads from home.
To date the school has a population of 350 children. The school takes care of baby class pupils to class 7. The Lord has enabled the school to build 12 classrooms, enough desks from sitting on the dust and 8 volunteer teaching staff. Our appeal to our friends is prayer and material or financial support to help feed these children.
II. Bisak Ministry
BISAK is an acronym name;
B – Balanced Ecosystem,
I – Improved Nutrition and Income generation,
S – Social development,
A – Alternative agriculture and
K – Kitchen gardening.
The formation of BISAK ministry was triggered by deteriorating environmental standards in Soweto slums. The ministry strives to realize a healthy and sustainable environment for God’s creation. In addition the ministry seeks to address the increasing malnutrition and orphans in the area.
Main Objectives
i. Join Kenya in the afforestation program by growing assorted tropical seedlings and donating 10% to the government.
ii. To introduce the Zero-waste technology transfer to the Soweto community by training them on household waste separation, management and recycle to usable products.
iii. To teach and be a referral centre for Alternative Agriculture by introducing hanging gardens, mobile gardens and double dug-bed to maximize production of limited space.
iv. To train Youth groups on how to decompose market place waste to organic manure as an income generating activity.
v. To support the HIV/AIDS patients by teaching them on how to use the Alternative Agriculture techniques as a source of nutrients (local vegetables).
III. Sheepcare School of Computer Studies
As a means of narrowing the gap between haves and have-nots the school of computer studies strives to bring the computer training and services to the society. It is also an income generating activity to the centre.
IV. Sheepcare Water And Sanitation Ministry
Since the inception of the Sheepcare Academy the pupils have been bringing water from home every morning. During the dry seasons water becomes very scarce and at times 20 litre container costs as much as Kshs. 40 ( 50cents US). God has worked through his servants and now there is a borehole in the centre. The borehole has incredible yields and they intend to use the water to plant trees, run the Alternative Agriculture project, fish farming, meet all the Centre’s water needs and share with the community at a small fee.
V. Art And Design Ministry
This ministry seeks to identify and expose the art talent in the community. The ministry concentrates only on art that glorifies God. In the short run the products are sold thus generating some income while in the long run this ministry seeks to create employment opportunities through utilization of such talents.
