Pastor Boniface Muiruri and his wife Grace Mugure serve the Lord in a small congregation in Waithaka, on the south-western area of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. The place is fairly rural in outlook. He is the lead minister with the Souls Spirit in the Holy Ghost Church. Pastor Boniface attended a VISION conference that was held near his village.
Throughout the five-day, the lesson of ‘Discipline of Love’ had the greatest impression on him. He learnt that Love is a key ingredient in serving others. After the training, he was convicted to demonstrate love to members of his congregation. The immediate result was a much more vibrant ministry environment in the church. When the church members began demonstrating love to the surrounding community, the church begun growing in numbers from 20 to 50 in a few months. Pastor Muiruri then taught his congregation some of the lessons he had learnt in the discipleship materials, BASICS 1 (it means Brothers and Sisters in Christ).
The church has initiated some seed projects to address some of the challenges facing the community. The community has been affected by the HIV/AIDS and many homes have been left without parents. This has left the village hopeless and with a feeling of stigma. One project is a one-day-a-week feeding programme for orphans. Due to scarcity of resources, and the desire to be Christ-like in their daily life, the church members share what they have with the children. Thus the project is supported by the church members and it is their way of loving those needy among them.
The fruit of the VISION Conference is a wave of change and hope in the Waithaka community. Many of those who have applied the lessons have played a direct part in the renewed community life. Care and attention is highly upheld and this makes the Christians there to be Christ like.
Pastor Muiruri is an encouragement to the church and the community that he serves in. He is working for a fruitful transformation for the entire area.
