EASTERN AFRICA - Kenya

BARAKA SEED PROJECT, NAKURU

It was started by church members after they attended a VISION Conference in October 2005. During the Conference some of the church members were challenged that wealth is in the mind, that we should use the little resources we have to do something to glorify God.

Objectives
• To provide good atmosphere for preaching the gospel to the needy and broken-hearted people of Ronda slums.
• To bring hope and love to the people of Ronda slums.
• To support widows and orphans.
• To create employment for the Ronda slums residents by training them on small-scale business.

Baraka seed project is divided into two groups.

Baraka Hope for Widows and Orphans Visitation
This initiative is to demonstrate the love of Christ to widows and orphans in Nakuru’s Ronda slums. Most of them are left without relatives to care of them and the orphans more often than not turn to the streets to beg. The church members took the challenge of visiting the widows and orphans and provide food or help with house chores.

Pastor Charles Ojallo and some other Christian believers began distributing the little food they had collected from their families to these widows and orphans in their respective homes. They also shared with them the good news of Jesus Christ. So far they have visited many homes and some of them have become church members. Two orphans and a widow were offered accommodation, food, schooling and tailoring training by the church.

Baraka Training and Tailoring Centre.
Baraka Training and Tailoring Center was started by yet another group in the church. The group has hired two sewing machines at a cost of Sh.600 per month. The church offered to donate money to buy materials and some rolls of paper for training .They also went ahead to buy training material to facilitate quality training services.

In the future the church intends to set up:

• Dress making and tailoring school.
• School of computer studies.
• Orphanage and rehabilitation centre.
• Dig boreholes to provide water.
