"If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea." Isaiah 48:18.
Last weekend l had the opportunity of traveling to Lome, Togo with my wife to attend the follow up meeting after the Vision Conference three months ago. It was great to have traveled with my wife on such a trip for the first time since she got real insights into the ministry l am involved in.
Additionally, she can speak little French and that gave me the confidence in this particular trip especially when confronted with the immigration and customs officials from Togo. In all about 60 participants attended the meeting, there were lots of praises and praying after which wonderful testimonies of seed projects undertaken were shared.
I hope to be sharing some of these testimonies in the weeks ahead. l also spoke on how we can accelerate the good work being done to make the Kingdom of God come on earth to end the strife, hunger, poverty etc in Africa. But one remarkable seed project undertaken was one done by the over 60 denominations which form the federation of Evangelical churches of Togo.
For the first time all the members of these churches contributed whatever they had. Remember, this is a country where civil and public servants has not been paid for over six months. They were able to gather soaps, detergents, biscuits and sacks of bread and on an appointed day, they marched to demonstrate their love to the patients of the main government hospital in the capital city.
However, before the donation, they took along hoes, cutlasses, brooms etc made sure they weeded all the bushy areas, clean the gutters, swept the dirty environments including the verandahs of the hospital. It was after the work that the donations were made personally to the patients and it was wonderful to see the expressions of joy flowing from the faces of the patients.
One patient asked whether these were visitors from another country and she was told these are Christians from Togo and she commented that Togolese Christians don't do what they were doing; but these are new breed of Christian demonstrating the love of God to all, she was told.
A senior matron in the hospital said since her 27 years of service in the hospital she has never experienced such profound love expressed in love and deed. To their surprise, the donations which was initially meant for three departments of the hospital was multiplied by the Lord and they were able to give to all patients of the entire hospital and the surplus sent to the prisons.
The national government newspaper of Togo gave this generous efforts of the Christians in Togo wide publicity and indeed, God was glorified! |
